Most of us grew up trusting people associated with institutions such as churches, schools, hospitals, government agencies and more. The last thing you would expect would be for someone representing this type of institution to use his or her position of trust and authority to sexual abuse those in their care.

Unfortunately, that is exactly what has happened far too often. Not just in Missouri, but in other states across the country. When this type of crime does occur, the institution that hired the offender must be held accountable. If you have experienced sexual abuse by someone in a position of trust or authority, Baron & Budd may be able to help you obtain compensation.

Why You Need a Lawyer

What is childhood sexual abuse? What does sexually abused even mean? You might think the answers to these kinds of questions are obvious, but they can actually be quite complicated. Different states view this crime in different ways. In some instances, that can make it very hard to successfully seek justice.

That is why you need an experienced attorney who is familiar with Missouri law if you intend to pursue a lawsuit against someone you believe has committed sexual abuse. At Baron & Budd, we have a team of attorneys extensive knowledge of how to successfully pursue these types of cases.

Examples of Sexual Abuse in Missouri

Missouri has seen its share of alleged sexual abuse committed by people representing institutions. These are just two examples.

  • The Roman Catholic Diocese of Jefferson City announced in November 2018 that 33 priests or other church officials had been credibly accused of sexual abuse. According to the diocese, the most recent case of abuse found in the investigation took place in 1997.
  • In October 2018, a former O’Fallon Cub Scout leader was charged with sexual assault of an eight-year-old boy and an eight-year-old girl. Both of the alleged incidents occurred in the man’s home.
